The following
studies were painted in the studio using models posing for the paintings.
They were completed similar to the way outdoor landscape plein air paintings are
painted in that they are painted from life rather than from photographs, are smaller sizes
generally from 8" x 10" to 16" x 20", and
were done alla prima (wet paint on wet paint).
The major differences between these studies and outdoor plein air landscapes is that the lighting in the studio is artificial
and does not change as
quickly as the sun across the horizon; and, the
wind is hopefully still in the studio, the bugs have not made entrance and nature does not take a break every
thirty minutes or so! |
