Make  a small thumbnail sketch of the composition

Set up easel - canvas & palette surfaces always in shadow

Paint  line drawing of composition using thumbnail and view

Paint in darkest darks in the rocks and

in the largest mass: the trees

Paint in the remainder of color with exception of the river bed

Paint in light river bed color and refine painting adding detail as needed
