Take digital photo of

general area

Make  a small thumbnail sketch of the composition

Set up easel - canvas & palette surfaces always in shadow

Paint  line drawing of composition using thumbnail and view then paint darks from focal point (the boat) forward

Paint in darkest darks near focal point and

in the largest mass: the trees

Paint in the remainder of color with grayed tones of a cloudy day

Refine painting adding detail as needed and enhancing light on and around focal point
